Pachypodium namaquanum's
most distinguishing feature is its swollen, barrel-like caudex. This enlarged, water-storing base can grow to impressive proportions, reaching up to 3 feet in diameter. The caudex is covered in a rough, gray bark that adds to its sculptural, almost architectural appearance.

Emerging from the caudex are the plant's unique, spiny leaves. These gray-green foliage structures are deeply lobed and tipped with sharp spines, giving the Halfmens a distinct, prehistoric look. In the summer, the plant may also produce large, bell-shaped flowers in shades of pink or white, further enhancing its ornamental appeal.
